Points and Paperwork - what you need to know...

If you are planning on making an application to a public school or concertada for your child this year, you'll need to start gathering all the required documentation. Sometimes it can take a while to get everything together, so it's best to start early.

Documentation needed for 2021 Applications

There are certain documents that ALL applicants need. They are as follows:

For the Parent making the application:

  • Scan of passport

  • Scan of NIE / TIE or NIF. If the NIE / TIE / NIF has the parents’ correct address on it, this is sufficient to prove catchment area and gain points. If not, the following is also needed:

  • Volante de Convivencia .This is a document like the Padrón, that includes details of all the family members living at a specific household.

For the Child(ren):

  • Scan of Libro de Familia or Birth Certificate

  • Scan of Passport

  • Scan of NIE if they have one (only obligatory if child is 14 years old or older).

With public school and concertada applications, the more points you have, the higher the likelihood of getting a place at your chosen school.

To gain these extra points, you may need to have certain supporting documentation. Below I list which extra points can be gained and the documentation needed to prove you are entitled to them.

Documents Needed for gaining extra points:

  • A brother or sister already at the school: 40 points, no documents needed.

  • A parent working at the school: 40 points, no documents needed.

  • A sibling at an affiliated school: 40 points, official confirmation from the affiliated school.

There are also points available based on where you live or your catchment area. This is referred to as your Àrea d’Influència. If you don't know which schools are in your catchment area check here.

  • Living in the Catchment Area: 30 points, documents needed: Parent’s NIE / TIE / NIF with correct address on it. If this is not possible, the Volante de Convivencia

  • Parent working within the catchment area: 20 points, documents needed: work contract or, if applicant is a freelancer, proof of status within the system.

  • Living in the same municipal district as the school: 15 points, documents needed: parent’s NIE / TIE / NIF with correct address on it. If this is not possible, the Volante de Convivencia

  • Living in same municipal area as the school: 10 points, documents needed: parent’s NIE / TIE / NIF with correct address on it. If this is not possible, the Volante de Convivencia

Please note: the points relating to your place of residence are not accumulative, just one can be taken into account.

Other Additional Points Available:

Member of a single parent family or child is a member of a famiilia numerosa (3 or more children in the family): 15 points

Low-income family: 10 points

Parent or child has a disability: 10 points

Don't forget, the application period runs between 15-24th March for P3 -6th of primary and between 17-24th March for ESO.
