Learnlife Urban Hub - Barcelona

Learnlife Urban Hub is an international school in the heart of Barcelona offering a personal, purpose-driven approach to learning for children.

At the Urban Hub, learning goes beyond a one-size-fits-all curriculum. Each learner follows a personal learning journey shaped by their interests, strengths, and goals. Experienced mentors build strong relationships with learners, supporting their academic progress, wellbeing and personal growth.

Learners develop core academic skills such as literacy and numeracy, while also building confidence, resilience, creativity and autonomy. There is a thoughtful balance between structure and freedom, giving learners both guidance and the space to explore their passions.

Hands-on projects and real-world experiences are central to learning at the Urban Hub. These practical experiences help learners apply knowledge, think critically, and build resilience in meaningful ways.

A strong sense of belonging underpins everything we do. Learners are part of a supportive, inclusive community where they feel seen, valued,= and encouraged to be themselves.

Learnlife Urban Hub is ideal for families seeking a modern, human-centred alternative to traditional schooling. It's a place where children gain the confidence and skills to thrive in life, not just for exams.

Welcome to Learnlife Urban Hub. We’re delighted you’re here.

We're a close-knit learning community in the heart of Barcelona. Our approach is built on positive relationships, curiosity and a belief that learning should feel meaningful and human. At Learnlife, every learner follows a personal learning journey shaped by their interests, strengths, and sense of purpose.

We empower young people to take charge of their learning, balancing academics with wellbeing, creativity, and essential real-world skills. With hands-on projects, mentoring, and real experiences, learners gain confidence, resilience, and the skills to succeed in life.

Most importantly, we want every learner to feel noticed, supported, and encouraged to be themselves.

We invite you to visit the Urban Hub and see for yourself the joy, energy, and sense of purpose that make learning at Learnlife special.
At Learnlife, we believe in empowering young people to take ownership of their learning journey, fostering autonomy and developing those skills that will prepare them for an ever-evolving world. Our approach is rooted in experiential, hands-on learning, with a strong emphasis on impact, well-being, and innovation. Learners are encouraged to explore their passions, work on real-world projects in our professional state-of-the-art studio environments, and develop competencies that go beyond traditional academics. Through a supportive and inclusive environment, we seek to ensure that every young person receives the guidance they need to flourish both academically and personally.

We invite you to visit us and experience first-hand the joy, wonder and purpose that define learning at Learnlife.

School Ethos

At Learnlife, we make learning joyful, meaningful, and personal. Each day, learners explore their interests, build confidence and develop skills to succeed in a changing world.

Every learner has a unique path shaped by their own passions, strengths, and goals. With help from dedicated mentors, they become more curious, independent, and take real ownership of their learning, setting the stage for lifelong learning.

We go beyond memorising facts and passive lessons. Learners take part in hands-on, real-world projects that make learning come alive and help them understand more deeply. This approach builds essential skills employers need, such as analytical and creative thinking, resilience and curiosity.

At the same time, learners build strong foundations in key academic subjects in ways that feel relevant and connected. Our approach often blends different subjects, helping learners see how ideas connect and use their knowledge in real situations.

By combining academic development with wellbeing, purpose, and real-world learning, Learnlife offers a modern education that helps young people to grow into confident, capable individuals ready to make a positive contribution to the world.

Languages

Primary Language

English

Additional languages offered

We offer Spanish and Catalan as part of our schedule. Learners who have a Spanish passport must follow the ESO route and study Spanish, Catalan, and Sociales.

There are many opportunities to engage with other languages and multilingual experiences through the building blocks and the personal learning plan that each learner creates.

Our learning guide team is multilingual and also speaks Spanish and Catalan.

Language support available

We offer Spanish for Beginners to help children who are just starting to learn the language.

Learners study English, Spanish, and Catalan. Lessons are adjusted to fit each child’s age, experience, and language level, whether they are native speakers or not.

Curriculum

We provide a secondary curriculum based on competencies that supports students from their early secondary years up to age 18.

We help students build strong academic foundations and important real-world skills, such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and autonomy. Our curriculum aligns with UK, US, Spanish and Catalan standards, so learners gain the right skills for their age while enjoying a flexible, personal learning experience.

At the Urban Hub, students learn through real-world situations. They take part in projects and challenges across different subjects, which helps them explore their interests, understand topics more deeply, and see how learning connects to life outside of school.

As students move forward, they become more independent and take greater responsibility for their learning. Mentors support them with academics, wellbeing, and planning for the future. This helps students discover their strengths, set goals, and get ready for life after school, whether that means university, starting a business, or getting a job.

Our secondary curriculum goes beyond meeting academic standards. It gives young people the confidence, skills, and mindset they need to succeed in a changing world.

Qualifications

Learnlife Urban Hub is an accredited international secondary school. It is recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education and New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Learners can earn both the American High School Diploma and the Spanish ESO certificate. We also offer Advanced Placement courses to help learners reach their goals.

Mentors guide learners and give them personal support. This helps each learner meet the requirements for their chosen path, whether that is university, entrepreneurship or starting a career.

Facilities

Learnlife Urban Hub is designed to feel more like a creative, professional learning environment than a traditional school.

The Hub offers open spaces and a variety of studios where learners can apply what they learn to real-world situations. There are studios for science, multimedia, music, robotics, cooking, carpentry and fashion. Each area supports hands-on learning, experimentation, and skill building.

Instead of moving from one classroom to another, learners spend time in collaborative spaces that look and feel like real workplaces. This helps them put ideas into action, link theory to practice, and build useful skills they can use anywhere.

The Urban Hub’s flexible design supports teamwork, independent projects, and mentoring. This creates an active, engaging learning environment. Learners can explore their interests, grow their passions and gain confidence in how they learn and work.

The Urban Hub stands out not just for its spaces, but for how they are used. Learners are encouraged to learn by doing, take charge of their learning and get ready for life after school.

Student Support

What learning needs the school can support

At Learnlife Urban Hub, we are committed to adapting to the needs of our learners through a personal, learner-centred approach. We recognise that each child has unique strengths, challenges, and aspirations, and we work closely with families to provide the right support while maintaining a balanced and inclusive community.

Our Learning Support Lead oversees the coordination of support services, ensuring that learners receive the guidance they need while fostering autonomy and self-confidence.

For learners with diagnosed learning or social-emotional needs, we offer Individual Learning Plans tailored to the child's personal growth. In cases where a higher level of support is needed, families may be asked to provide additional assistance through 1:1 support.

To ensure that all learners thrive, we maintain a cap on the number of learners with additional learning needs that we can support within the Hub.

We offer guidance for:

• Learners who benefit from a flexible, self-directed approach to education
• Language acquisition for non-native Spanish speakers
• Gifted learners seeking extended, self-driven learning opportunities
• Learners developing executive functioning, literacy, and numeracy skills
• Social-emotional development, including tools for self-regulation and well-being

Our goal is to create an environment where every learner feels empowered, capable and inspired to grow.

What support staff are available

To ensure a holistic and personal approach to education, our team includes:
• Learning Guides (teachers and mentors) who facilitate self-directed learning.
• Learning Assistants who provide additional guidance in the learning environment.
• A Learning Support Lead who oversees individual support, coordinates with families and provides targeted interventions and personal guidance.
• Referrals to external professionals for specialised interventions and assessments, like psychologists, speech and language therapists, or occupational therapists (available on request).

Admissions

Details of entry criteria

Children need an intermediate level of English (ideally B1). If a child is below this level, they can work with a tutor to improve their English before joining Learnlife.

Details of entry tests

We do not use traditional entry tests. Instead, children are invited to experience Learnlife through a taster day or an online family meeting with the Hub Lead. This helps us understand whether Learnlife is the right fit for each family.

Further Information

Our admissions process is personal and supportive. It starts with an online meeting with our Admissions Lead, where we get to know your family and see if Learnlife is a good fit.

Next, families fill out an online application, which we review carefully. If approved, learners can join a taster day, or families can have an online conversation with the Hub Lead. After that, we will let you know the outcome and next steps. If your child is offered a place and you accept, you complete enrolment to secure their spot.

Extra Curriculars

Learnlife takes a different approach to extracurricular activities. Rather than offering a traditional programme, we encourage learners to keep exploring after school by joining sports, clubs and other activities outside of Learnlife. This helps them pursue their interests in real-world settings and connect with the wider community. Many of our learners also stay at the Hub after school to continue their learning.
